On The High Number of Art Degree Holders Who Never Again Make Art

This past week I completed and submitted the final assignments required for my BFA degree. I lived out the moment in a completely indulgent application of Main Character Syndrome and I have absolutely zero regrets about it.

Arriving at the University in the morning, I hurried to the library with my cup of coffee and laid out my notes, laptop and iPad in one of the reserved study rooms. I put on my headphones and cranked up the volume to my “Beastmode” playlist which may or may not have included Eye of the Tiger (I cannot confirm or deny this). For the next few hours I was completely locked in, editing my final animation project and putting together various PowerPoint portfolios of the semester’s work. I staged all the work in a desktop folder and packed up my things. I tossed the study room key back to the library clerk and skipped off to the Student Union to have my little celebratory moment.

The Sacramento State University Union features a Round Table Pizza on the first floor, which is definitely the most decadent place to get lunch on campus. It is also the only place on campus that sells alcohol (outside of that sold at football games, that is). I ordered a large beer and carried my beverage over the the bar and its TV blasting college sports at full volume. Opening my laptop once…
